Monty’s Corner – News on the Golf Course, June 2025

Hello Everyone!

As always, I hope this newsletter finds you well.

Summer is now upon us with some high temperatures and long days, and I kind of feel like I’m back in New Orleans!

As you all know, we hollow tined our greens and tee boxes in the last week of May and it was very successful. Most golf courses do this process twice a year, but I have managed with my maintenance team to find a solution to do it only once a year so that we do not have to close the course for two weeks. The team did a fantastic job and managed to complete all the works on time. Now the greens and tee boxes are recovering and will be back to normal in a few days.

This summer is forecast to be very hot, so I have be careful when cutting the greens. I am trying to keep the greens at 10 on the Stimpmeter, but I must make sure we do not cut them too short that they will burn.

All greens will be cut every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday by hand for our members competitions and rolled on all tournaments we host here at the golf club. The fairways will continue to be a little longer, as well as the rough.

I will be focusing this summer on all the details of the golf course. I want the tees to be groomed and cut as well as the surroundings of the buggy paths and around all tree bases. As you know, the grass grows at a fast rate when the temperatures are hot so we must stay on top of this to present the course in good condition.

We are currently in the process of spraying the weeds on the fairways. So when you see a dead spot on the fairways, it’s not dry, it’s the chemicals that have killed the roots so that they won’t grow back. This is the only way to get rid of all the weeds that flourish during summertime.

We now number a total of 215 members, with 53 golfers on the waiting list. We will not accept any more as we must respect the tee times for our existing members and clients. We have a fantastic group now and I would like to thank the members’ committee for ensuring all members are taken care of, with the incredible ambiance on the terrace after our competitions. It is so nice to have members from many different countries play a round with each other and then sit and enjoy a drink and chat after the game. This does not happen at too many golf clubs on the coast, so I am very lucky to have this at MGCC.

Between May 19th and 22nd Satu attended the IEC (IAGTO European Convention) event, held this year in Gran Canaria. During this convention prescheduled appointments of 20 minutes are scheduled for the participating sellers (golf courses, resorts and hotels) with golf tour operators from all over the world.

In the golf shop we will start our sales on June 20th on our spring and summer clothing collections, so don’t miss this opportunity to upgrade your golf outfits with the latest in fashion.

To refreshen you after golf during these warm summer months, what could be better than a bottle of cava, white wine or our special cava or red wine sangría to share with friends! Check out the Restaurant section of this newsletter for some great options.

On June 28th we will host the third Charity Tournament Avance Positivo with a shotgun start at 09:00hrs. Mark your calendars and check this newsletter for more information on this very worthwhile cause. You can sign up by calling Bjorn Jonsson, MGCC member, on 626 000 866. You can also find this event on the calendar of the Clapphouse app, where you will be automatically directed to Bjorn when clicking on “sign up”.

Have a great summer and see you all around the golf club.

Kindest regards,

Monty Bordelon
