Monty’s Corner – October 2025 News

Hello everyone, it’s that time again for another update on the happenings at our golf club.

We are now in high season, and the golf course is very busy every day. Thank goodness the temperature has dropped a little, so it’s very pleasant now to play 18 holes, and this is also good for the fairways.

Throughout this past month, we have been hand watering greens on a daily basis. Applying a wetting agent where needed is important to create consistency on all the greens. We have experienced some disease issues with several greens being hit with dollar-spots, but treatments are ongoing already to combat this. Fungicides are being applied as needed to resolve these problems.

Over the winter and spring, we are going to push all tees with regular Verti drain, which will improve water infiltration and reduce compaction. All tees are being cut at 7mm, twice a week, and have been solid tined and fertilized for the upcoming winter months. Many tee surfaces suffered during the prolonged hot and dry summer. However, with the recent cooler weather, the tees in general are now improving, and hand watering and spot applications of wetting agents have taken place throughout the summer.

Work in progress for our team is to create more definition in the fairways and rough. Please be patient with me as I am overseeing this weekly. You will be able to see some definition standing on the tee boxes very soon, so there will be no excuses for missing any fairways!

Put in your agenda the Marbella Golf 2025 Ryder Cup tournament, being held over two days on November 3rd and 5th. We sent the information on this event earlier this week and the tournament is now open for signup on the Clapphouse app. In addition, another popular members’ event coming up is the Autumn Scramble on November 21st

On a side note, I would like to congratulate the European Team for winning the Ryder Cup recently in New York. The better team won and maintained excellent composure throughout the weekend. Well done! 

El Olivo Restaurant continues this month with another special limited-edition hamburger. Try out our Mexican Andale Burger, including chili con carne and guacamole, with a chilled Coronita beer, and in November we will be offering a special Smash Baconnaise XXL Burger. You won’t want to miss either of them!

In our golf shop all the autumn clothing collections have now arrived, so pop in and choose a new outfit for the season.

Finally, I would like to welcome all the members who have arrived back at the club for the winter months and also to the new members who have recently joined. We now number 216 members with a long waiting list. Thank you all for your continued support and me and my staff will always be here for you and for all your needs.
