Ladies Corner – December 2025 News

Dear Ladies, 

As the festive season approaches and the year draws to a close, I want to take a moment to celebrate a fantastic year. December always brings a special sparkle to the club from the crisp mornings on the course to the cheerful gatherings in the clubhouse. This year you won’t see me around for Christmas, but I will be back in January to start our Ladies Interclubs matches. 

A Warm Welcome to our new Lady members 

We are thrilled to welcome Delia Berkery, our latest addition to Marbella Golf! Delia is a friend of mine and comes from Ireland, she brings with her a great love for the game. We are delighted to have her join our golfing family and can’t wait to see her out on the course. Also welcome to Helga Van der Zon, Helga was a member before and many of you already know her, looking forward to seeing her at the club again. Welcome Ladies!!! 

Interclub News

Our Interclub matches with Villa Padierna Golf Club, welcomed this year as a new addition, were a great success. All the ladies truly enjoyed meeting each other, playing the stunning Alferini course and making new friendships over the lunch at both clubs. Both hosts at home and away did a great job!!! 

Home Match: Our six ladies worked very hard against a very strong team, with the day ending in a win for Villa Padierna. VP: 5 – MGCC: 4

Away Match: Playing the stunning but challenging Alferini course, which many of us had never played before, we arrived with no expectations and came away with a fantastic and unexpected win! Despite the home team’s advantage, our ladies rose to the challenge, and we were all over the moon with a very well-deserved result. MGCC: 5 – VP:4

The final overall result was a very amicable halved. MGCC: 9 – VP: 9 

A big thank you to Melanie Scholz, Monika Mirgorod, Debbie Pajak, Eliis Naro and Paulette Koper-Stallmann for stepping in at the last minute. Your support was greatly appreciated. 

Looking ahead to 2026

I am pleased to confirm next year’s Ladies Interclub dates and Los Naranjos Golf Club as a new addition, a fantastic achievement for our Ladies section!!! 

• Miraflores Golf Club: January, Friday 16th (Away) & Thursday 22nd (Home). 
• La Cala Golf Resort: February, Thursday 12th (Home) & Thursday 19th (Away). 
• Aloha Golf Club: July, Tuesday 14th (Away). 
• Los Naranjos Golf Club: September 7th (Away) & 10th (Home) 
• Marbella Club Resort: October, Tuesday 6th (Home). 
• Villa Padierna: October 23rd (Away) & November 17th (Home) 

Captain’s Day Results 

Captain’s Day was once again a highlight of the season, special thanks to Jan Zadruzynski who hosted the day and he will be guiding us in his second year as Club Captain! A big congratulations to all the winners but a very special well done goes to Edna Graneli for her second Trophy win this year, she has been playing well -hopefully we’ll see her handicap drop soon! Our winners in the Ladies Category: Edna Graneli winning with 40 points. Eliis Näro was second with 39 points, Sheelagh Maloney third with 38 points and well-done KiKi for winning nearest the pin. 

Ryder Cup 

The Ryder Cup was played over two days — Day 1 featuring teams of two players competing in four-ball best-ball match play, and Day 2 with individual singles match play. We all fought hard in a competitive yet friendly spirit, making it another fantastic event. Once again, the President’s team came out on top. This marks the third consecutive year that Steve Cullen’s team has claimed the trophy. Well done, President!!! 

Autumn Scramble

What a fantastic day we had at the Texas Scramble Tournament! It was the perfect chance to take a few risks and try shots we would never dare attempt on a federated day. Who knows… maybe we should adopt a more adventurous style of play in the future 🙂

AGM

This year’s AGM will provide us with the chance to reflect on 2025, share future plans, and celebrate our achievements. Your participation on the day and input are always valued and appreciated, make sure you attend this very important meeting every year, especially if you are participating in the morning competition.

And Finally… A Golf Joke to End the Year

Golfer: “I think I’m improving.” Caddie: “Why’s that?” Golfer: “I missed the water this time.” Caddie: “Yes… but only because it’s frozen.”
