Welcome to our August Ladies newsletter!
I hope you are all enjoying a wonderful summer and finding time to make the most of everything our beautiful club has to offer. Whether you are escaping the heat with an early morning round, taking part in one of our weekly competitions or simply meeting friends after golf, August is another fantastic month to enjoy our very special community made of great members.
Ladies Interclub Matches
Aloha Golf Club:
Our away match against Aloha Golf Club took place on Tuesday, 14th July and what a lovely day it was. The Aloha ladies looked after us exceptionally well, we had the pleasure of playing their stunning golf course, enjoyed a delicious lunch and as always the wonderful company was the cherry on the top. I would like to say a huge thank you to the team composed by Chrissie Wills, Melanie Scholz, Saskia Schoenmakers, Sheelagh Maloney, Anneke Samways, Anita Cullen and Ania Zegzula for representing Higuerón Marbella Golf Resort. You all made the club proud.
It was a very challenging match, with Aloha benefiting from home advantage. Results on the day: Aloha 8.5 HMGR 3.5. However, we achieved a very deserved win once we added both home and away games thanks to our excellent HMGR 7.5 vs Aloha 1.5 from our home victory, match played last year. Therefore, Higuerón Marbella Golf Resort won with a total of 11 points to 10. It was a closely contested match!
Looking Ahead – Los Naranjos Golf Club:
Our next Ladies Interclub fixture will be against Los Naranjos in September, don’t forget to put your name down!

La Zagaleta Charity Golf Day
On Saturday, 18th July, several of our members took part in the La Zagaleta golf Day in support of the Cudeca Foundation. A non-profit organization that provides specialized palliative care for patients with cancer and other advanced terminal illnesses, offering all of its medical and psychological support completely free of charge. It was another fantastic day, combining our love of golf with the opportunity to support such a worthwhile charity. The course certainly provided a challenging test for some of us but that was all part of the fun!
Representing Higuerón Marbella Golf Resort were, Saskia Schoenmakers, Melanie Scholz, Irina Konyaeva, Paul Weightman, myself and Ania Zegzula with her husband Joaquin Alonso Ramirez who collaborated in the charity event providing BRUNI Collin’s Gin from their distillery Destilerías Joaquín Alonso. Congratulations to Melanie for winning Nearest the Pin, and to Paul Weightman for taking First Prize in his category, a fantastic achievement by both!
Night Golf Tournament
On Saturday, 1st August, we enjoyed one of the most unique and entertaining events of the summer, the Night Golf Tournament. The evening began with a delicious cocktail dinner before we headed out for a 10:00 pm shotgun start. Playing golf in complete darkness was a completely different experience! We used illuminated golf balls, while the tees and flags were also lit up, creating a spectacular atmosphere around the course.
The competition was played in teams of two using the Best Ball Pairs format, with 24 players, both members and guests, taking part. The prize-giving took place well after midnight, bringing a fantastic evening to a perfect close.
Huge congratulations to our Club Captain Jan Zadruzynski and Vice-Captain Joe MCKelvey for finishing in second place. Believe me, it certainly wasn’t easy!
I would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make the evening such a success. A special thank you to Monty Bordelon and Satu Kaariainen for organizing such a fun event, to Marjan in the Golf Shop, who took all players registration and accompanied us throughout the competition and prize presentation, to Irena and Kenny, who looked after everyone during the cocktail dinner and worked passed midnight, with their usual friendly smiles and outstanding service. Honestly, thank you to all the staff who worked tirelessly into the early hours with such enthusiasm and professionalism. Events like these simply wouldn’t be possible without your dedication.
A Final Note
I would like to finish this month’s newsletter by reminding everyone that there is so much happening at the club beyond our three weekly competitions. Throughout the summer, Higuerón Marbella Golf Resort has organized a fantastic program of events for both members and non-members. From elegant summer dinners with live opera and
Sunset Sax Dining Experience to fun evening nine holes golf competitions with BBQ and many more exciting events still to come, there really is something for everyone.
All upcoming golfing events can be found and booked through the Clapphouse App, so don’t forget to have a look and sign up. Information on the Social events is sent by email and as a notification through the app where you can see the details how to book. It’s a wonderful way to enjoy the club, spend time with friends, meet new people and make this summer even more memorable.
