Dear Ladies,
Welcome to our October Ladies Newsletter!
It is hard to believe how quickly the year is passing. The last couple of months have been full of golf competitions, Interclub matches, yoga classes, charity events and soon our Annual General Meeting.
As we move into autumn, I would like to take a moment to look back at some of the highlights of the past couple of months.
Interclub Matches
Los Naranjos Interclub
Our new Ladies Interclub with Los Naranjos Golf Club took place in September, with the away match on Monday, 7th September, followed by our home match at Higuerón Marbella Golf Resort on Wednesday, 9th September. It was fantastic to welcome Los Naranjos ladies to our club and to continue building these new friendships.
Away Match: LN 7 – HMGR 2
Home Match: HMGR 6.5 – LN 2.5
Overall Result: Higueron Marbella Golf Resort 8.5 – Los Naranjos 9.5
It was a very close overall result, with Los Naranjos taking the win by just one point.
Marbella Club Golf Resort
After playing our away game at Marbella Club last year, it was our turn to welcome the Ladies Interclub at home on Tuesday, 6th October and it was another successful day at Higueron Marbella Golf Resort. It is always lovely to play Interclub, but even better when we get to show off our beautiful course and hospitality at home. Well done Team, you made us very proud!
Home Match: HMGR 6 – MC 3
Away Match: MC 6 – HMGR 3
Overall Result: 9 – 9
A well-deserved win for Higueron Marbella Golf Resort at home but an overall halve to make both teams want to play again next year!
Next Ladies Interclub
We are already looking ahead to our next Ladies Interclub, don’t forget to sign up! We will play against Villa Padierna Golf Club, with our home match on Friday 23rd October and the away match on Tuesday 17th November.
Club Championship
Our 2026 Club Championship was played in September over 36 holes with members competing over two rounds for the prestigious title. Congratulations to Lee Twyman after an impressive two rounds of 76, finishing with a total gross score of 152. Playing off a handicap of 2.3, Lee showed excellent golf skills. I would also like to congratulate Debbie Pajak who finished in second Place in the Net category. Super well-done Debbie!!!! Congratulations to all the winners and of course well done to everyone who took part, we need more ladies next year!
Cudeca Charity Golf at Miraflores
Another very special event over the summer was the Sue O’Sullivan Memorial Cup at Miraflores Golf, held in support of the Cudeca Foundation. It was again a wonderful opportunity to support an incredibly worthwhile cause. The event brought golfers together to honour Sue O’Sullivan’s memory while raising funds for Cudeca and its vital work providing specialized palliative care. A few of our members took part, and it was lovely to see Higuerón Marbella Golf Resort represented at such a meaningful event. A big thank you goes to Sheelagh Maloney, Julie Owen, Roger Williams and Stephen Gilks.
Yoga
Every Tuesday we have a Yoga class at Higuerón Marbella Golf Resort at our beautiful El Mirador Terrace at 9:30am. The 1-hour lesson is in English and for all levels. Please contact Lisa Watson at lisa@lisawatsonyoga.com / 603310373
AGM – Wednesday 14th October
And now, ladies, I have an announcement to make. After two very happy and rewarding years as your Lady Interclub Captain, the time has come for me to hand over the role. It has been a real privilege to represent all of you and to be involved in developing our Ladies Interclub programme.
We now have some fantastic new clubs added to our Ladies calendar, including Aloha Golf Club, Los Naranjos Golf Club, Marbella Club Golf Resort and Villa Padierna Golf Club as well as our wonderful Torrequebrada Away Day and we continue playing La Cala Golf Resort and Miraflores Golf.
What I am particularly proud of is the spirit we have created around our Ladies, it has never been just about the result of a match, although we certainly like the look of our two-year unbeaten at home record! It has been about meeting new ladies, making friendships, visiting beautiful golf courses, enjoying lunches together and of course, having plenty of laughs.
I will be passing over the captaincy at this year AGM, and I am very happy to tell you that your next Lady Captain will be Melanie Scholz. Melanie has been a huge support to me over these past two years. She has been incredibly committed to every single Interclub match, rearranging her business meetings and travelling from Berlin to make sure she could be here to support the team.
I am delighted to be passing the baton to Melanie, I know she will do a fantastic job, and I hope you will all give her the same encouragement and support that you have given me.
Finally…
I have to say that being your Lady Captain has been one of the most enjoyable experiences, it has given me some wonderful memories that I will always treasure. There have been some very proud moments and probably more WhatsApp messages than I ever imagined possible, I have met amazing members and enjoyed many special days.
Wishing Melanie lots of luck in her new role, and I look forward to seeing you all on the golf course.
With lots of love,
Cristina Fernández Romero
Ladies Interclub Captain
