Monty’s Corner – August 2025 News

Hi everybody, I hope all of you are managing to stay cool in this hot weather!

At the golf club everything is running smoothly and very efficiently. Like every summer, many of our members have gone back home to enjoy the pleasant weather in different parts of Europe. The weekly competitions have not been as busy as in spring, but still very competitive, and it’s nice to see the members that stay here all year-round still working on reducing their handicaps.

We are spraying daily to reduce the weeds in the fairways, and as mentioned in the June newsletter, this occurs every summer as the weeds grow so fast in the hot weather. The greens are rolling a 9.9 on the Stimpmeter, and I am very careful not to cut them too short as the sun will burn them. The rough is still the same length, but I am trying to get these fairways a little longer without the weeds popping through. You will have seen more definition on the collars of the greens as I have let them grow a little longer.

At our El Olivo Restaurant we are running a special promotion for the rest of the month of August for an Aperol Spritz Cocktail for only 8,50€, make sure to try one or two! And after the warm summer months, we will continue again with the special hamburger of the month from September onwards.

Do not forget to mark your calendars for one of the most important members’ events of the year – our two-day Club Championship tournament, which will be held on September 22nd and 24th. I will have the greens rolling fast, so you all better start practicing! By the beginning of September, you will receive the details of the tournament by email, as we will open the signup process three weeks in advance.

I am incredibly pleased to announce that we now number 216 members and have 64 golfers on the waiting list. We will not take any more members to make sure we have enough space for everyone to enjoy the course. I can only say, “This is a great situation to be in”! The golf club is growing and that is thanks to the work of the golf committee and the members.
