Monty’s Corner – News from the Golf Course

Hello everyone,

I hope this letter finds you all well and enjoying your golf.

It has been a very busy few months here at the club. We have already hosted many events and are looking forward to continuing with both golf and non-golfing events throughout the summer and autumn season of 2026.

My favorite so far was the Night Golf Tournament held at the beginning of this month. This was my first time doing this type of competition in Spain, although I have hosted many similar tournaments before at my golf club in Orlando. The evening was a resounding success and thanks to all who took part.

We will be hosting another Night Golf Tournament soon, as I have had many requests to repeat the format, so watch out for emails, our app and social media posts for information on all upcoming events.

The next golf competition is our 9-Hole Scramble with barbecue on Saturday, August 22nd. You can pick your own team of four to try to win some of the great prizes on offer.

As for the social calendar, our next Opera music night and special dinner with the tenor Francisco Amorós performing live is on August 29th. The Opera and Classical music events are being held on the last Saturday of each month and for the event in September another artist will be performing. Also, the Cocktail Workshop, originally planned for this summer, will be held in September. We will inform you shortly of the details.

The Yoga classes with Lisa Watson, our yoga professor, held on our El Mirador terrace will resume in September and we will inform you through the app of the timetable.

Regarding the app, between end of August and September a new, enhanced version of the app will be launched, and we will all be changing to “Mulligan” instead of Clapphouse. Again, we will inform you by email of the definite date to change to Mulligan with the relevant usernames and passwords, but please note that all the current functions, competition live scoring, etc. will continue working exactly as they are now.

The golf course in my opinion is in very good condition considering the heat we have experienced this summer, and I would like to thank my maintenance team for their hard work and professionalism. We do still have some issues with the wild boar, but a lot less than last summer. We are doing our best to solve this problem as it is a continuous daily effort.

The greens are a bit slower than normal and that is due to the heat. I do not want to cut them too short because they may burn out, so I prefer them to be in good condition and receptive but just a little slower. The fairways are still a work in progress; we are concentrating on keeping them green but not watering so much that we have wet fairways. It’s a challenge, but we are managing not to have too many wet areas that affect play.

Our new SandPro machine to groom the bunkers is working very well. We are mixing the old sand with the new and hopefully this makes getting out of the bunkers easier. Remember, as a tip, just don’t go into them!

At the time of writing, we have 217 members and over 80 people on the waiting list. We are continuing to attract golfers keen to join the golf club and this is thanks in no small part to the Members’ Golf Committee, and, of course, our great staff providing five-star service. I would like to thank the President, the Captain, the Ladies Captain, and the Vice Captain for always supporting me and being tremendous ambassadors for Higuerón Marbella Golf Resort. Thank you, Steve, Jan, Cristina, and Joe.

In our golf shop we are starting to receive the new autumn/winter collection apparel. This autumn, in addition to the best-selling brands such as Adidas and J.Lindeberg, we will be stocking new lines that we are sure you will love, including Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein!

Finally, as I mentioned in the June newsletter, we are organizing a special Open Day event on September 17th at Higuerón Gran Málaga Resort and its Sport Club. In a few weeks you will receive the complete schedule by email, which will include a tour of the Sport Club. For now, save the date and be sure to book early as spaces will be limited!

Thank you all for your support and I will see you around the club.

Tee it high and let it fly!
