I must start by saying that hot on the heels of an excellent St Patrick’s Day event on 18th March, what a fantastic day we had on Friday, 1st April for the Bob Naify Trophy!
The story of Marbella Golf Country Club would need a whole book, so suffice to say here that without the late Mr. Bob Naify, the club would almost certainly have ceased to exist in the 1990s. Mr. Naify would have turned 100 years old now and the event was held within days of the 6th anniversary of his passing, so being honoured by the presence of his daughter, Leslie and granddaughter, Tina, made for a very special occasion. Fittingly, it was the sunniest and warmest day for golf in Marbella for almost 3 weeks.
We were treated to a buffet breakfast and a perfect golf day, followed by a superb meal with Tony Capo providing excellent entertainment in our El Olivo Restaurant in Marbella. It was an absolute pleasure to witness almost 60 members & guests enjoying a wonderful afternoon on the terrace.
Thanks to the Management team and staff for putting on such a memorable day and congratulations the winners: Dulcinea Antonsson (Best Ladies’ Score and overall Trophy Winner), Jess Meakin (Men’s Best Score) and Josiana Derguini (Best Guest Score).
Josianna also won the Ladies Nearest the Pin prize. It is probably fair to say that a 200-yard shot into a strong wind made for a serious challenge to win the Men’s Nearest the Pin prize, but it was still very surprising that not a single one even hit the green. So, it was an unexpected delight for Bani Morteza to pick up the prize through a ‘lucky draw.’
Men’s Interclub matches against El Chaparral, Mijas and Cerrado del Aguila have already been arranged for late-April/May and we all are very much looking to these always enjoyable days which add to our excellent experience as golf members in Marbella. Details will be posted on the Interclub Notice Board very shortly.
